1. All submittals under the Incentive Award Program are to be addressed to the Assistant Superintendent and transmitted electronically (if possible) to:

2. Completed applications must be received by the second Wednesday of April or the first Wednesday of October.
3. The Incentive Award Committee shall respond in writing to applicants to be received within 14 days after the application deadline date. If the application is not approved, the committee shall indicate in writing the deficiencies to be corrected. The applicant may submit a revised proposal to be received within 21 days after the application deadline date. The Committee shall notify the applicant in writing of approval or rejection to be received within 7 days thereafter. The decision of the Committee shall be final. (Committee members who submit proposals shall excuse themselves from the review process for their applications.)
4. Evaluation data must be received by the second Wednesday in April.
5. The Committee shall respond in writing to be received within 14 days after the evaluation deadline date. The Committee shall specify additional data required, if any. Additional data must be received not later than 28 days after the evaluation deadline date. The decision of the Committee shall be final. (Committee members shall excuse themselves from the consideration of their evaluation data.)
Incentive Award Program
Galena City School District
In an effort to improve student achievement, the Galena City School District and the Galena Education Association have developed an Incentive Award Program. This program offers certificated teachers the opportunity to earn an award of up to 5% of their yearly salary by implementing projects that will improve the education of the students in the District. Proposals may be submitted either by individual teachers or by groups of teachers.

The teacher may qualify for an incentive award of up to five per cent (5%) of the teacher’s annual salary for extraordinary performance regarding student academic/ performance gains, the development of innovative programs, and other meritorious efforts. The award shall be paid with the teacher’s final paycheck of the school session. Notwithstanding, the teacher may elect an equivalent value of instructional materials and/or training in lieu of a cash award.
The district shall post an announcement for a period of ten days that money is available for such awards. Once the posting period is over proposals from teachers shall be due within twenty (20) days.
A committee of teachers and administrators shall review applications and make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding incentive awards. The committee shall be composed of the administrator(s) and at least three (3) teachers, which are appointed by the association.
Teacher members of the committee shall be elected by the teachers from their respective schools. The Superintendent shall not serve on the committee. The recommendation of the committee shall be accepted or rejected in its entirety by the Superintendent. A committee report accepted by the Superintendent shall be presented to the Board with a recommendation for adoption.
In addition to the functions described above, the committee shall serve as an advisory committee for the continuous evaluation and revision of the incentive award program. The committee may be assisted by outside consultants. The periodic recommendations of the committee for revisions to the program shall be accepted or rejected in their entirety by the Superintendent. A committee report accepted by the Superintendent shall be presented to the Board with a recommendation for adoption.That every student be afforded the opportunity to be successful on the (benchmark and graduation qualifying) tests and graduate from high school.
The School Board believes that a quality education provides an opportunity for each student to develop:
1. The concept of self-worth and the ability to exercise self-discipline.
2. A positive attitude toward responsible citizenship.
3. Mastery of the basic skills in mathematics, computers, reading, language arts (including reading, oral and written communication), the sciences, foreign languages, and fine arts.
4. Skills and other competencies leading toward economic independence consistent with the individual's interests and basic potential.
5. An awareness and understanding of our country's history and ideals and its diverse ethnic, racial, and cultural heritage.
6. An awareness and understanding of the heritage, ideals, and contributions of other cultures, races, and countries.
7. The opportunity to develop the capability of students to appreciate beauty in literature, art, music, and nature.
8. A recognition of the importance of physical and mental health.
9. An ability to adapt and participate constructively in a changing society.
10. An understanding of the relationship of people and his/her environment.
11. Moral and ethical values based on the rights and responsibilities of individuals and their relationships to each other.
