No Child Left Behind
July 31, 2007
Dear GCSD Parents:
The Leave No Child Behind Act that was signed into law in January of 2002 collectively refocuses our national attention on teacher quality as being the critical ingredient to improving education on a school by school basis.
Galena Interior Learning Academy and Sidney C. Huntington School are pleased to notify all of our parents that 100% of our core elementary teachers meet the specific qualifications outlined in NCLB for “highly qualified, 100% of our core secondary teachers (grades 7-12) are highly qualified in at least one content area, and 100% of our paraprofessional staff also meets the “highly qualified” standards. Furthermore, all of our teachers and paraprofessionals continue to improve their instruction and assessment practices as well as improving their content knowledge.
It is recognized by GCSD’s administration that within school buildings, teachers are the number one influence on student achievement and learning. Galena City School District has traditionally kept “teacher quality” at the forefront of all our hiring practices as well as professional development opportunities that are provided for our teaching staff. Our professional development model will ensure that all GCSD core teachers will not only meet but go beyond the “highly qualified” requirements of NCLB.
As a parent of a GCSD student, you have the right to obtain the professional qualifications of the teachers that are serving your child. If you desire this information please do not hesitate to notify the principal’s office at Galena Interior Learning Academy or Sidney C. Huntington School, and we will provide all appropriate information.
Thank you for your continued support of all our programs. Together, we are making a difference.
Doing it Better,
Harry White, GILA Principal Chris Reitan, SHS Principal
