Honoring the Denaakk’e Language

SHS is pleased to announce that our Koyukon Athabascan culture and language class has been a huge success both inside and outside of the classroom walls. Each week, Claudette Green, shares words and phrases with our students and staff to preserve the traditions of the Athabascan people and their language.

MEET CLAUDETTE

We are proud to introduce Claudette Green, who focuses on Koyukon Athabascan culture and Denaakk’e language. Claudette regularly reaches out to our community and elders to provide special resources and assists with coordinating our annual cultural celebrations.

OUR VISION

It is our vision to enable our school community to speak and understand Denaakk’e (our language).

Athabascan language experts have provided a few points to help each other learn:

  1. It’s okay to make mistakes in language class. We celebrate by making mistakes. “Hoozoonh!” (It’s all good!)

  2. Be respectful to yourself and others.

  3. By practicing our language, you will begin to speak and understand.
