The Madeline Solomon scholarship deadline is on May 2, 2022. Available to graduating seniors from Sidney C. The Sidney C. Huntington School is participating in Screen Free Week, May 2nd through May 8th. This is an annual, international celebration when families, schools and communities swap the digital entertainment for the joys of life beyond the screen. There is a full week of activities, including walking, biking, swimming, an activities fair, game night and family night!

We are pleased to announce the reward of the Activities Awards and Employee Acknowledge Ceremony.  The ceremony begins at 7:00 pm on May 3 in the Sidney Huntington School Gym.  This is ceremony is open to the public.

SHS & GILA Juniors:
There will be decorating for Prom after school on Friday, May 6th. Ashley Kramer will be providing transportation from the dorms (after school), leaving at 4:15 pm. Students will return for dinner at 6:00 pm and head back over to continue decorating up until 9:00 pm.

GCSD will be having a mandatory senior meeting on Friday, May 6th in the Composite Auditorium starting at 4:15 pm (or as soon as the second bus arrives).

SCHOOL CLOSURE UPDATE: Due to a water issue, SHS students in grades Pre-K through 8th Grade will not have school today Friday May 6th. 
Meals will not be served, and the bus will not be picking up Pre-K to 8th Grade students. SHS High school students will be attending school on the GILA campus, a bus will leave SHS at 8:45am for those that need a ride.

The community of Galena is invited to view the prom from 7-8:30pm on Saturday, May 7^th at the community hall. The junior class along with advisors Katrina and Becca Huntington would like to THANK the community of Galena for all their support and sponsorship. Without you the prom wouldn’t be possible!

This year’s Galena Prom will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2022.

Sadly, due to circumstances beyond our control, we will have to cancel the production of “The Shakespeare Project”.  It is with a heavy heart that we make this announcement.  Hopefully, we can resurrect this production next year and you’ll revel in a bit of Shakespeare at a later date.

Repairs to our water system have been completed. Pre-K through 8th grade students will attend school at the normal time today, Wednesday, May 11th.  The bus will be running at the normal time.  High school students will continue to attend classes at GILA to finish their final exams. High School students will return to SHS tomorrow, Thursday, May 12th.

On the GILA side, you will leave them in the tech shop with Scott. If you have anything important on your computer, please make sure you have backed up any files before delivering. Hard drives will be reset to factory defaults before seniors are given their computers back at the end of school.

Today Thursday, May 12, will be a regular school day.  The bus will be running on schedule and high school students will attend their regularly scheduled classes on the SHS campus.

Galena’s annual Graduates BBQ (Senior Dinner) will be held on Tuesday, May 17th, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm in the Community Hall. This special meal is for all graduates and is hosted by the parents of SHS seniors. If you would like to bring food to share, please feel free!

There will be a Baccalaureate Ceremony held on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:00 pm at the Catholic Church in Galena. Baccalaureate is a time when families are able to give their thanks and it usually proves to be a moving ceremony.
