2022 Graduation Ceremony
We’re excited to celebrate our 2022 graduating seniors with family and friends. Our GILA and SHS Commencement Ceremony is happening on Wednesday, May 18th.
**Monday, May 16 – GRADUATION WEEK UPDATE: We will have a live stream for family and friends unable to make it to Galena for our in-person event. It will be available for viewing on our GCSD website: https://www.galenaalaska.org.

Gym Set-Up from 9:00 am to 4:00 pmTuesday, May 17, 2022:
Gym Decorating from 9:00 am until complete
Graduates’ BBQ from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Community Hall
Baccalaureate Ceremony at 7:00 pm at the Catholic ChurchWednesday, May 18, 2022:
Graduation Rehearsal from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
K-8 Community Picnic from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at SHS
High School Community Picnic from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at SHS
Graduating seniors report to gym by 6:15 pm
Graduation begins at 7:00 pm**The graduation ceremony will commence on Wednesday, May 18th at the Sydney C. Huntington School (SHS) gymnasium. Students and GILA families will be transported to the SHS campus. The ceremony will begin at 7PM. Traditionally the ceremony lasts approximately 3 hours. After the festivities are over, students return to the dormitory and pack his/her bags. The majority of GILA students will fly out of Galena on May 19th and May 20th.
Graduation Rehearsal
Graduation rehearsal will be happening on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Community Picnic
Galena’s annual Community Picnic (aka “Last-Day-of-School Cookout”) will be held on Wednesday, May 18th, at the SHS campus. All families and the Galena community are invited!
The cookout will stagger start beginning at 11:00 am.
-PreK thru 1st grade students will go first.-2nd & 3rd grade about 11:15 am.-Middle school students along with 4th & 5th graders about 11:30 am.-High school students will start at 12:04 pm.
Parents are welcome to take students home after lunch. For students needing a ride, the bus will take students home starting at 12:30 pm. High school students will be released when they finish lunch. - 19May 19, 2022
In-Service Day / School Closed
Friday, May 19 is a work day for Galena teachers and administrative staff.
GILA Families Depart
Over the dates of May 19th and May 20th, GILA students and parents will fly out of Galena.
