Activities Director Report April- May 2021

E-Sports:
Will be continuing to compete through May 12th as they make up matches missed to basketball and from the closure in accordance with the Smart Start plan. The State tournament will continue until May 15th

NYO: 
Will be virtual this year.  Students will compete weekly in different events and we would submit their best height or distance depending on the event. The event allows for 7th and 8th graders to participate which we feel would be very valuable for the students and will allow. Events and submission are as follows:

  • Alaskan High Kick, Scissor Broad Jump, and Wrist Carry April 12 – 12:00 AM
  • Two-foot High Kick, Kneel Jump, and One-hand Reach April 19 – 12:00 AM
  • One-foot High Kick, Seal Hop, and Toe-kick April 26 – 12:00 AM

The top five athletes will be invited for a live stream event in High, One, and Two-foot kick

Elementary skiing:
Will be continuing to take place on Wednesdays and Sundays. The program currently has 13 students from 2nd to 5th grade. Plans are to continue to April 25th unless the snow turns bad, with a ski celebration on May 2.

April 12th – 16th, 19th -23rd:
Virtual Health Career Exploration Camps are being offered from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. for Behavioral Health. Sponsored by YK AHEC and KUC Campus.

April 24th:
Prom is scheduled to take place in the SHS gym. The theme this year is “Night of 1000 Lights.” Juniors and seniors will be the only ones invited. Other students may attend if invited by a junior or senior.  April 26th – 30th and May 3rd-7th: Virtual Health Career Exploration Camp will be
offered for Health Careers 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sponsored by YK AHEC and KUC Campus.

April 26th -May 7th:
Behavioral Health Careers Camp from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Students will have an opportunity to earn 1 college credit for participating. Students must be 14
years of age and older to participate. Sponsored by Alaska AHEC and APIA.

May 1st:
Volleyball Clinic for 7th to 12th-grade girls from 11 am to 2 pm at the SHS Gym.

May 6th and 7th:
The one-act play, “The Importance of Being Earnest” will take place in the SHS gym. Dr. Huntington has been consulted in the event and the students will be using body mics to help carry their voices.

May 25th:
Senior Skip Day

May 26th:
Baccalaureate (Logistics to be determined)

May 27th:
Graduation (Logistics is still being determined on how it will look)
