Principal’s Corner

November 23, 2022

Dear SHS Families,

Today, Wednesday, November 23rd, is an early release day. PreK-7th grade students will be released at 1:00. Eighth – 12th grade students will be released at 2:00. The bus will be running. Students will also be out on Thursday, November 24th, and Friday, November 25th for Thanksgiving. School will reopen on Monday, November 28th.

As explained in my November 18th message to parents, we are back to an open campus. That means 8-12th grade students, who wish to do so, can go to the store and coffee shop before school and during lunch.

The cold and flu season is certainly upon us; we still have had a number of students out sick. This has been particularly true for our younger elementary students. I have directed the janitors to wipe down common touch areas around school. Hand sprayers and hand wipes are located in every classroom as well as around school. We are also encouraging students to use the sprayers particularly before eating.

In honor of Native American Month, Claudette Green is organizing a classroom door decorating contest for both high school and elementary classes . She is encouraging an Alaska Native theme. Judging will be on December 2nd.

Sidney C. Huntington School, is planning an after school tutorial program that will start after the Christmas holidays. The program is for all elementary students and middle school students through 7th grade. Currently, we are planning to start the tutorial program right after school at 3:00 pm and continue until 4:30 pm for all students who would like to attend. More information to follow.

Secondary students, including 8th graders, currently have the Voluntary After School program which allows them to receive help from teachers after school between 4-5 pm. Teachers participating in VAS have particular days that they stay after school. Our electronic bulletin board also announces which teachers are available which day and on what campus.

Thank you,

Dave Casey, Principal
