From the Desk of Superintendent Johnson

September 4, 2023

Dear GCSD Families and Community Members,

It was once stated, “That gratitude is perhaps the healthiest and most impactful element associated with all of human emotions.” In light of this sentiment and in looking back upon the first two weeks of the school year, we have much to be grateful for!

I also share this thankfulness and appreciation as my wife and children have been embraced each step of the way since joining the team. These recent warm memories include the outpouring of support in helping to raise our children, Galena’s and our surrounding communities’ hospitality throughout another softball season and the excitement blowing in the air with the opportunities to go to camp and look for moose quickly approaching.

Transitioning from the personal to the professional, our team has been working endlessly to ensure that your child(ren) thrive this year. For instance, at SHS several staff have dedicated themselves to implementing the Science of Reading philosophies to ensure that every child builds a strong literacy foundation and our Early Childhood Education program has expanded to begin supporting three-year olds in the community this year with the expectation that we will be able to welcome one-and two-year olds next school year. Across town at GILA, major building renovations are underway to provide a state of the art educational facility anticipated to be completed around winter break, a renewable energy pathway has been added into the CTE curriculum and we have partnered with an aviation company to re-launch Galena’s aviation opportunities for youth in the future. Furthermore, we expect to add eight additional staff in the upcoming months to support our Special Education, Math and Science programs!

In closing, we are overly excited about the upcoming months and look forward to partnering with you in helping to provide your child(ren) with an exceptional educational experience with us!

Most Sincerely,

Jason R. Johnson, Ed.D.
